Well Met: Renaissance Faires, Hippies, Radicals, Artists?

Rachel Rubin asks and tell at the same time what it was like. What it meant?

Well Met: Renaissance Faires and the American Counterculture just got me thinking. I was marbling at the Faire at the same time as marbling on the street, Haight Street and Telegraph Avenue. At that very same time, I was also acting doing new vaudeville Shakespeare at Renaissance Faire while doing the  Berkeley Shakespeare Festival with Kathy Soliah of SLA fame.

American Counter Culture and Renaissance Faire ... Well Met:?

As much as I am enjoying Rachel Rubin's Well Met: Renaissance
Faires and the American Counterculture
I would have to Howard write the movie. Or maybe Kyyio. Or maybe David W. Teske from Manchester Iowa, the star map maker.

Did the Faire influence the counter culture? No, not really.  Did the counter culture influence the Faire. Not in the long run.  Was it a blast ... you bet.

For me, I did "new vaudeville" Shakespeare at the Faire in suburbia at the same time as doing Shakespeare in Berkeley with Kathy Soliah (Sarah Jane Olsen of SLA fame). Neither influenced the other and only common trait the Faire and the revolution had was neither paid very well.

Well Met: Renaissance news.

Ms. Rubin new book Well Met: Renaissance fairs and the American counterculture is out. Memories of Hand Pies, marbling, fencing, acting, over-sized backgammon and living on the Faire site pour into my processor head.
