2015 Pi Second

Pushing Pi Day as a once-in-a-century teaching moment may be bad timing because this year Pi Day comes on a Saturday and kids are not in school when the exact moment that numerically equal the first ten digits of pi actually occurs.

There are many places around the country that Pi Day celebration are not so directly  connected to pie or education.March 14th (3.14) is of course Einstein's birthday and other places people celebrate by having a 3.14 mile 'Pi Run.'

So one of my heroes in Santa Fe is Dave Bell of Mello Vello bike shop because he has the energy to deal with all the naysayers at city hall.  I've spoken to Mr. Bell before about having  a down 'race' or "run' from Wilderness Gate to St. John's College for trail bikes to focus attention on the popular but not dedicated Arroyo de las Chamisa.

O.K. I'm proposing a Wilderness Gate "Pi Downhill" from John Coventry place up Wilderness Road to Rod Day's place and then down the arroyo to St. John's.I would love if the event would start at St. John's with time trails up to Coventry's exactly on 2015 Pi Second - Saturday,  March 14, 2015 at 9:26 and 53 seconds or 3.141592653.
I have been fooling around with some logos and name for a 3.141592653 mile bike downhill on Pi Day. I liked "Pi Roll" and my wife liked "Wheel Pi." And if it got as far as serving food to the participants, I would have to roll out a new Hand Pi sandwich in the shape of a bicycle wheel and call it a "Vello Pi(e)."
